The Curse of Being Spiritually Gifted (And Why It’s Keeping You Broke)

Dear friends,
“Your gifts will make room for you” is a popular biblical phrase that I learned growing up in the church.
What the verse doesn’t say though, is that your gifts will make you money. Unless you can divine next weeks lottery numbers. (Also if you can do that, call me :P)
As spiritually gifted people we all have the potential for our gifts to make us money, but it’s not automatic. And the fact that it’s not automatic is what many of us find incredibly hard.
Most of us didn’t ask to be gifted, we were just born this way. Yes, we’ve had to develop our talents, our craft, yes we have had to study, but it’s not the same as the effort required to become good at something we are not naturally good at.
This is the curse of being gifted. The gifted have an unconscious sense of entitlement. We expect everything to be easy, we only want to play to our strengths.
And this is one reason why many of us don’t make any money.
What we fail to realise is that sales & marketing is a gift too. It comes naturally to some people (just perhaps not to us) and some of us hold resentment towards those who are good at it. We judge them when we should be learning from them.
We consider them less spiritual, less worthy and can’t understand when their businesses are bigger than ours - when our gifts are so much more potent.
Sound familiar?
If it’s not resentment or judgment that we feel, then it’s fear. It’s fear of learning something new and not being good at it.
Our spiritual gifts are our safe place, one where we are worthy, one where we are good enough. To step outside of it, and to admit inadequacy makes us feel afraid.
This is extremely common with gifted people, whatever the gift is.
There are absolutely no guarantees that living in your purpose or divine calling leads to money. It isn’t a law that is written anywhere.
But we’ve been told this so many times, through stories perpetuated by social media, that it’s become the opposite of a limiting belief. It’s become a delusional one.
Money is something that primarily comes through skill. The skill of making money.
It’s the same in business. There is a reason we have dedicated sales and marketing departments, why we spend money on sales training or hire specialists. We acknowledge the gift. We understand that we have no money and no business without these people, no matter how good our product is.
It’s time to lift the curse of being spiritually gifted, so we aren’t afraid to develop new gifts.
With love,
Lola
